Open Water Diver Course
Why
PADI Open Water Diver Course?
Fun and Recognition – that best describes the PADI Open Water Diver
Course. This is not only the most popular dive programme in the world
(over 330,000 Open Water Divers certified by PADI Instructors worldwide
last year), it is also the most widely recognized (over 190 countries),
respected and educationally acknowledged. This course will give you all
the confidence and knowledge to become a fully certified PADI Open Water
Diver - what that means is that you can dive anywhere in the world to
a maximum depth of 18m. This is your gateway to the fascinating and exhilarating
world of Scuba Diving.
What Do I Need To Start?
You can enrol in the Open Water Diver Course as long as you are in good
health, reasonably fit and comfortable in water.
You will be given the PADI Go Dive Crew-Pack, which includes a manual
and some tools to help you plan dives safely.
Minimum Age
15 Years old PADI Open Water Diver Course.
10 years old for the Junior PADI Open Water Diver Course. Please note
that the maximum depth limit for children aged10 -12 is 12m and they
must dive with a parent, certified Guardian or PADI Professional.
What Will I Do?
On this course you will learn the fundamentals of Scuba Diving, including
Dive Equipment and Techniques. This will be achieved in five Theory
Sessions, five Confined Water (Swimming Pool) Sessions and four Open
Water Dives (Optional if you wish to do a Referral Course - see below).
PADI Open Water Course
Classroom
In your Go Dive Manual you will find five chapters. We will need you
to have read all five chapters before you start your course and completed
the easy Knowledge Reviews at the end of each chapter. In our Theory
Sessions we will watch the PADI Go Dive DVD, review the Knowledge Reviews
you have done at home, and complete a fun, multi-choice quiz for each
of the five chapters in the Go Dive Manual. We will also need you to
have read the small booklet on how to plan dives.
Confined Water (Swimming Pool)
We have five sessions in the swimming pool which correspond to the five
theory sessions of the classroom. Before you do a pool session, you
will have already read about what you will be doing in your Manual (mainly
having lots of fun) and also watched a DVD of the skills you will be
practicing.
The PADI Education System is a practical based system, all skills are
pyramidal so we take everything nice and slow, and only move on when
you, and we, are happy to progress.
Open Water Dives
We will go away to a purpose developed inland dive site for our four
Open Water Dives. In these dives we will experience the exhilaration
and freedom of diving away from the constraints of the swimming pool,
we will also perform some of the skills we mastered in our confined
water training. As we can only do three dives in a day, the four dives
are usually completed over the course of one weekend, but can be completed
at your convenience.
PADI Open Water Course Referral
Method
This is an option for people who may never want to dive in the United
Kingdom, but who want to experience the thrill of Scuba Diving on holiday.
The benefit of doing a Referral Course is that you are not having to
spend large amounts of your holiday time stuck in a classroom or/and
hotel room reading your Manual and completing Knowledge Reviews.
You will do all the Classroom and Confined Water (Swimming Pool) sessions
as above, plus your final quiz, here with us. We, as PADI instructors,
will then sign your Referral Completion Form for you to take to any
of the thousands of PADI Dive Centres/Instructors in over 190 Countries
Worldwide where you will complete your Open Water Dives. Only at this
point will you become a Fully Certified PADI Open Water Diver.
How Long Will It Take?
Approx 5 - 8 hours in the Classroom
Approx 6 - 8 hours in the Swimming Pool
Approx 1½ – 2 days in Open Water
NOTE: As PADI Programmes are performance based, you proceed as you demonstrate
mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that
is comfortable for you and without pressure.
As stated above, we will expect you to have read and
largely understood the Go Dive Manual and also the booklet How To Use
The Recreational Dive Planner, before you attend your first Theory Session.
How long this home study takes is, in part, the beauty of the PADI System.
As we all learn at different speeds and in different ways, (reading,
watching, doing) we should all arrive at our first Theory Session, excited
and relaxed, having absorbed the information we need in pre study, in
our own stress-free surroundings and at our own speed.
